This “doors” image illustrates the ongoing closure of local branches by the banks in Australia. Evidently a once prosperous branch of the bank, the premises are now deserted with the vault door ajar. Next to that, an excellent looking fireplace.

I took the photo at Boonah, a Queensland country town located about 100km inland from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Established in the 1880’s, Boonah was home to an established cattle industry.
Visiting Boonah today, it has a bustling main street with all the expected enterprise like hardware, clothing, general dealers and of course real estate. There are two hotels in the main street and cafes serving good coffee, great breakfasts and yummy home baked confectionaries.
The closing of the bank branch is inexplicable and will affect many of the locals especially older folk who may not be able to handle their banking affairs online.
This practice of closing rural and remote bank branches is common in Australia. I wonder if this is widespread overseas? This against the backdrop of one of the banks recently announcing a profit of over 10 Billion dollars. Great for the shareholders but not the loyal customers.

High street banks in the UK are a rarity these days, closure of branches seems to be happening everywhere. A great door indeed.

I always like seeing vault doors but it is sad to see branches closing. So many businesses have abandoned the concept of customer service in favor of even higher profits. I keep waiting for a backlash but younger people don’t seem to care.

So it is happening worldwide. Thanks for commenting, Dan

We recently had to collect our belongings we held in a safe deposit box from a bank that’s closing this month. They’re a bank that once had 4 locations in our city. Now there is 1. I think it’s happening in many places.

Thanks slfinnell, and I had not thought of the safe deposit aspect.

Great Thursday Doors.
It’s disheartening to witness the closure of vital rural bank branches, affecting local communities and especially our elderly residents.
Surely many countries face similar challenges. It’s a stark contrast when large banks announce hefty profits while disconnecting from their loyal customer base.
A thought-provoking observation.
