I took these pics when I visited Melbourne and Country Victoria in 2013. Eleven years later there is a good chance that the town looks somewhat different given the fact that many people have made the “tree change” to come and live in these historic and charming towns. Just a 2 hour drive from Melbourne, Clunes is potentially a commute away. I have checked online and there seems to be 2 daily train services between Melbourne and Clunes.

Below, the Clunes Post Office building

Not much in the way of any personal experiences to add here. We landed up there on an afternoon on one of the hottest days of the year (40°C or 104°F) and not much open on a Sunday afternoon, or enough to entice you from the air-conditioning in the car.
But a few notes gleaned from Wiki:
- Distance from my home (Brisbane): 1800km (1120 miles)
- Population 1700 + (2016)
- The site of Australia’s first registered gold discovery in 1850
- Clunes established approximately 1855
- Nowadays Home of the Clunes Booktown Festival, held in March
- Clunes was famously the backdrop for one of the Mad Max movies, Picnic at Hanging Rock and other productions

Fantastic buildings and interesting history. I love seeing libraries and post offices (my dad was a mailman).

Thanks Dan. The building of the post office and the population swelling to over 6000, all around pursuit of the yellow metal.
