A walk this week through the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus seemed like a nice idea as it was the first time for one of our offspring who was visiting with us from London, U.K.
Although I made a mental note to look out for some doors, I only managed to snap a couple.
Above, the doors of the Arts Faculty as seen from the Great Court which is a huge sandstone quadrangle (below).
And below, some outside views of the Great Court building.
The inscription above the Arts entrance (below) could be translated as: “We seek beauty in a spirit of moderation, and wisdom without forfeit of manliness”. (Information from Pascoe, B., & University of Queensland Media Information Services). Words which in today’s world may be regarded as somewhat inappropriate.

I know it’s a doors challenge, but I love seeing the architecture, so this is fine. I like that the inscriptions tell our story over time. I hope they don’t change it.

Thanks Dan. I enjoyed seeing your places of learning too. Walking round them is quite evocative, takes one back to distant times.
