This time we are back in New Zealand, on the South Island or “The Mainland” as the locals like to call it. A long time ago, I was told by a clever young law student who had a holiday job with us that Arrowtown was a place that I would like very much. She was right. But then I don’t think there is a single person on earth that would not adore Arrowtown.

Anyway this is about the doors of the Arrowtown Bakery. They serve gourmet pies and there is always some sort of a queue of customers, sometimes spilling out of these doors.

The pastries and pies are something to be experienced and just nearby is a sundrenched park where you can sit down and enjoy.

Originally built for the Gold Rush, but now made for tourists, Arrowtown is just 12 miles (19.5 kilometers) from the Ski Mecca of Queenstown. But that’s another story. Meantime, lets find some good coffee. And after the savory, how about something sweet?
